6. People with criminal records

If you have a criminal record you can change your name by Deed Poll. However if you have any pending criminal actions against you then you are required to notify the police about the change of name. Also, if you are on probation you are required to inform your probation officer of the name change.

Finally, if you are on the sex offenders’ register you are required to notify the police within three days of changing your name. Failure to inform them of the name change is a criminal offence.
