4. Asylum seekers and refugees
Asylum seekers or refugees can apply for a name change by Deed Poll and the Deed Poll will be accepted by the UK Border Agency as evidence of your change of name.
If you have a Convention Travel Document or Certificate of Travel you can also use your Deed Poll to apply for a new document in your new name. Also, if you’re applying for British citizenship after changing your name, you can use your Deed Poll to get your naturalisation certificate and British passport issued in your new name.
