What is the purpose of a Deed Poll?

If you decide to change your name you will also need to change the name featured on all your official documents and records, for example your UK passport, driving licence, bank account, credit card, medical, tax and National Insurance records, etc.

To do this you will be asked to produce documentary evidence of the change of name – and an official Deed Poll is the document that is accepted without question by all government departments, companies and organisations as evidence of a name change.
