Dispute: Bride-to-be Changes Name

Published: 7th June 2010

Thomas Cook

A bride-to-be has changed her name to 'I Hate Thomas Cook' after being charged to alter her name on her honeymoon booking.

Austin Kettle, 26, changed her name by deed poll to 'Mrs Lorraine Darla I Hate Thomas Cook And Its Associates Big Shot Company Treading On The Little Guy Leeks' after the holiday company told her she would have to pay a fee to change the surname on her booking.

If your name's not down: Thomas Cook say customers must ensure that the name on their booking matches the name on the passport.

Mrs Leeks, who plans to get married in February 2011, booked her honeymoon to Gambia last month under her married name of Leeks. She then realised she would not have enough time to change the name on her passport.
When she contacted Thomas Cook to ask them to amend the booking details, the company told her she would have to pay a fee to do so.

In protest against the charges, Mrs Leeks decided to tell the company exactly how she felt about their policy by changing her name, including her first name from Austin to Lorraine, using the Legal Deed Poll Service. She said: 'I wasn't angry with Thomas Cook; at first I was a bit upset but it was just a bit of a crazy moment.

'My fiancé thinks I'm crazy. The amusing thing is he will have to say my new name during the wedding ceremony.'

A spokeswoman for Thomas Cook said: "All customers are advised that the name on their booking must match the name on their passport."
