Knight Rider Fanatic

Published: 22nd October 2011

Meet Michael Knight & KITT

A Knight Rider fanatic from Lincolnshire has changed his name by Deed Poll to Michael Knight, after dedicating the last six years of his life to producing a full working replica version of KITT, the 1985 Firebird car from the hit TV show.

Stuart Morgan, a minicab driver in the local area changed his name with the Legal Deed Poll Service after his love of the show literally changed his life.

The 29 year old, said: “In 1982 when the series was aired, my mum sat me down in front of the TV and I have been a fan ever since.  It was more about the car than ‘The Hoff’ though, and as KITT always called his driver Michael, all of the files I have from the show would then be correct to my name.  It would also be great for my friends to call me Michael when I turn up in the car!

“As a youngster we would travel to America and during one visit I saw a Firebird for the very first time. I told my mum that one day I too would own one and in 2005 that dream came true.  After finding the ideal car, I then set about converting it into a full KITT replica which is now an exact show copy- it even talks!”

The car has been used as a prom car and Stuart often takes his creation to car shows in and around the area.

He added: “I am a member of a car club called Yorks Yanks, an American car club.  As part of the club I take my car to various shows in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.  I recently took it to the Hull Motor Show and despite there being Ferraris on show, everyone was crowding around my car which was great.”

Costing just £13.39, Stuart changed his name online and in just ten minutes his Deed Poll document was on its way to him in the post.

He continued: “I will be changing the name on my bank cards, passport and drivers license.  I have told my mum about my name change but she said that she was still going to call me Stuart regardless of my name change!”

Tina Clough from the Legal Deed Poll Service said: “Knight Rider is joining one of many who decide to rename themselves after their idol, like George Garratt from Surrey who renamed himself ‘Captain Fantastic Faster Than Superman Spiderman Batman Wolverine The Hulk And The Flash Combined’, in
