What is legalisation?

‘Legalisation’ is a process whereby the UK government confirms the authenticity of legal documents and certificates issued in the UK.

Legalisation is required when a document (like a UK birth certificate or Deed Poll) needs to be accepted by a foreign country (or their embassy in the UK). 

Legalisation is simply the official term used when confirming to other countries that any of your UK documents are genuine and it applies to all kinds of documents, from birth certificates to Deed Polls.
