What is legalisation?
If you need to get official documents accepted overseas, you will need to arrange for these documents to be 'legalised'.
With legalisation, the British government confirms the authenticity of legal documents and certificates issued in the UK. Once your documents are legalised, they will be accepted by foreign countries (or their embassies in the UK) because their authenticity has been confirmed by the UK Government.
If you have changed your name by Deed Poll, and you need to produce it overseas or at a foreign embassy in London, you will need to get your Deed Poll legalised to confirm it is genuine.
