A man's rights upon marriage

Although it’s traditional for a man to keep his surname upon marriage, some men do decide to change their name by either:

  • Double-barrelling their surname with their wife's surname
  • Taking their wife's surname
  • Making their wife's surname a middle name
  • ‘Meshing’ (or combining) their surname with their wife's surname to make a brand new surname

Although you can use the following links to go directly to the different sections of this article, we strongly recommend you read the full article first. This way you’ll get a full understanding of all your options.
