Adult Deed Poll
What is a Legal Copy?
A Legal Copy (also known as a Certified Copy) is an official copy of the original Deed Poll. UK Government departments, etc will not accept seeing a photocopy of your Deed Poll document. You can therefore use legal copies when notifying everyone about your change of name.
Please note:
- You will receive a draft copy of your Deed Poll by email within the next 2 hours.
- We will despatch your Deed Poll by first class mail on the same day if you apply before 4.30pm (Mon-Fri). Applications recevied after 4.30pm (Mon-Fri) or at the weekend, will be despatched on the next working day.
- Prices include applicable taxes and postage.

Delivery services available
First Class delivery
We will post your Deed Poll documentation by first class mail on the day of receiving your application if you apply before 4.30pm (Mon-Fri). Your Deed Poll will be posted on the next working day if you apply after 4.30pm (Mon-Fri) or at the weekend or during a Bank Holiday. This service is free i.e. it is included in the fee for your Deed Poll and delivery typically takes 1 to 2 working days.
First Class Signed-For delivery
We will post your Deed Poll documentation the same working day we receive your application (if received before 4.30pm). Delivery typically takes 1 to 2 working days. With this delivery service, proof of posting is available and an electronic copy of the signature can be viewed online.
Special Next Working Day delivery by 9am
We will post your Deed Poll documentation the same working day we receive your application (if received before 4.30pm) for guaranteed delivery by 9am on the next working day. With this delivery service, proof of posting is available and an electronic copy of the signature can be viewed online.
Special Next Working Day delivery at 1pm
We will post your Deed Poll documentation the same working day we receive your application (if received before 4.30pm) for guaranteed delivery by 1pm on the next working day. With this delivery service, proof of posting is available and an electronic copy of the signature can be viewed online.
International Signed-For delivery
We will post your Deed Poll documentation using Royal Mail's International Signed-For service, which is an accelerated airmail service, the same working day we receive your application if you apply before 4.30pm GMT (Monday to Friday).
Archive service
When you order legal copies we lodge a digital image of your Original Deed Poll document, free of charge, in our archives so that we can supply you with a replacement should you lose your Original Deed Poll in the future.
You can still subscribe to the archive service even if you don’t order any legal copies.
Additional declarations (optional)
If you need to change your title, add an additional address or include a former change of name on your Deed Poll document, we can modify your documentation accordingly.
There is a section on the application form which you can use if you want to change your title, declare past names or add additional addresses to your Deed Poll.
Change of title
If you are applying for an Adult Deed Poll and also wish to change your title i.e. from Mrs to Miss or Miss to Mrs, etc, we can include a 'Change of Title declaration'.
Additional address
If you reside at two addresses or if you have some documents registered at one address and others registered at another, we can include this address on your Deed Poll document.
Past name change
If you are applying for a replacement Deed Poll, for example, because you have lost your original Deed Poll or if your name was changed by usage (without a Deed Poll) when you were a child, we will include a declaration to state that you have been using your name 'for all purposes' since a particular date.
Payment methods
Cash payments are accepted at any UK Halifax bank.
