How to get your Deed Poll legalised
Legalisation is handled by the Legalisation Office at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.
When you receive your Deed Poll from us don’t sign it immediately. Take it to a UK registered solicitor or UK registered notary public who must witness your signature on the Deed Poll document. Expect to pay between £5 and £10 for this service, but do ask first (a notary public will charge more).
If your Deed Poll has already been signed and witnessed (by someone other than a solicitor or notary public i.e. a family friend), you will need to take your Deed Poll to a UK registered solicitor or notary public for authenticating.
The solicitor or notary public will write (anywhere) on your Deed Poll document "I have no reason to doubt the authenticity of this document." They will need to sign and print their full name under this statement so the FCO can check that the solicitor or notary public is registered in the UK.
Then, to complete the legalisation process, you will need to post your Deed Poll to the Legalisation Office.
